Hi,

We are currently using TM4C1237 in our project and In our case we will be programming the firmware into the SPI flash which is connected external in our board.

Is there any sample application available to program the firmware binary from the SPI Flash into the internal memory of theTM4C.

Please let us know what is the procedure to do so.

Hi,
Sorry, We don't have sample application as such, i.e. programming the internal flash from the external SPI flash. I will suggest you reference the TivaWare Peripheral Driver Library user's guide under section 12 Flash. There are APIs to erase and program the flash using FlashErase() and FlashProgram(). If you already have working code to read your SPI flash then I think it shouldn't be too hard to program the read data into the internal flash using the flash APIs.

You might also want to reference the TivaWare bootloader via the SPI interface.

How do we read data from SPI FLASH. Is there any API or sample application to read data from SPI flash using the TM4C ?

Thanks for the support.

According to the document, The SPIFLASH will be connected to the SSI interface.

Please let us know, What is the process for calling the SPI API.
For example, Tell the step by step process for calling each of the API from initialization.

Since we are not aware on how to configure the SSI interface for SPI FLASH.

Hi,
Did you have a chance to read the TivaWare Utilities Library user's guide? e2e.ti.com/.../SW_2D00_TM4C_2D00_UTILS_2D00_UG_2D00_2.0.pdf

Please go to the section 18 SPI Flash Module and you will find all the needed API. To initialize the SPI Flash you will call SPIFlashInit() after you have enabled the SSI peripheral and configure the appropriate GPIO pins for use by the SSI. As mentioned, we don't have any examples for interfacing with a specific external SPI flash memory.

Hi Charles,

Can we copy a large chunk of data through SPI since according to the link you have refered it is mentioned like only few bytes can be copied. In tm4c129 only that feature is supported ? In tm4c1237 can we not do bulk transfer of data.

Hi,
I think the two threads I attached for your reference talks about issue with using SSIAdvFrameHoldEnable. This is a hardware feature only available with the TM4C129. The poster is able to use the GPIO to control the CS signal instead of relying on the FSS pin generated by the SPI hardware. The poster also managed to modify the SPI flash driver. The modified driver was attached along with his application code. Why don't you take a look at those? You also need to look at the datasheet of the SPI flash you are using. Different SPI flash may or may not have the same problem as described by these two threads.
