TMS570LS3137: Hercules Development Kit

Part Number: TMS570LS3137

I am attempting to test an ISR I have created to react to a positive edge triggered pulse on pin GIO A 1. Upon first attempt I succsfully observered my ISR execute as expected. However, upon subsequent tests, I was no longer able to flash software updates to the board. Some of the status lights remain lit when the Hercules Dev board is powered, so I'm assuming we did not smoke the board. Our procedure was to apply a 3.3V 1Hz squarewave signal to the pin which according to the processor specs is within the 3.2 to 3.6V range.

Is there any advice on injecting signals to the TMS570LS31x Hercules dev. board? I would like to get the current board repaired if possible; however, in the meantime I have order 5-additioal boards. I am reluctant, however, to perform the same test again without understanding how the failure occured. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello,
If the signal you are injecting is in range 3 to 3.6 and grounding is fine, it is not dangerous for the board. The most frequent reason for damaging boards is ESD and short circuit.
For repairing, please contact your local sales representative. Before contacting your local sales representative , please check whether connection between HDK and computer is fine.

  • Miro,

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I am absolutely certain there was not shorting. I will ensure the common lead from our function generator is properly connected to the board's ground. I'm not entirely sure this step was performed. Additionally, I will ensure proper ESD procedures are followed: Heal straps, wrists straps, grounded ESD mats, ESD flooring, and the full ESD regalia.

I'll post back the results of my efforts.

    Thank you again.

  • Hello,

Can you connect to the board through JTAG? What is status of the ERROR led?
