TMS570LC4357: UART Vs. LIN interface port configuration capability question

Part Number: TMS570LC4357

I am posting this for my customer:

The TMS570LC4357 calls out 4 SCI/UART of which 2 can be used as LIN.  I read this as 4 UARTS or 2 UARTS and 2 LIN interfaces.

We need four LIN interfaces.  Is there any way to configure all four UARTs to be LIN interfaces?  Does TI have a special driver to convert the UART to a LIN protocol?

It seems from what I have been reading it should be doable, but not being a SW person, I am not positive.

I know we need LIN transceiver/PHYs on the channel since LIN is single wire.  Are there other external options that convert standard UART protocol to LIN protocol?

Thanks!

  • Hello Mark,

The UART can be used as LIN. But we have this kind of example.
  • Thanks QJ,
But the answer is not clear to me...
While the TMS570 calls out 4 SCI/UART of which 2 can be used as LIN. Can it also be used to have four LIN interfaces (Is there any way to configure all four UARTs to be LIN interfaces)?
And... Does TI have a special driver to convert the UART to a LIN protocol?

If We have examples - please point me to them. Thanks!
  • Mark,

Sorry for my typo: we don't have example to use UART as LIN.

The device has four UART (SCI) interfaces, two with LIN 2.1 interface. I called SCI port, and SCI/LIN port. You can enable LIN mode for SCI/LIN port. You can also configure the SCI port to TX/RX LIN message. I am sorry I don't have this kind of driver.
