LM3S5653-STELLARIS_MCU: LM3S5 Stellaris MCU EOL & migration path

Hi,

Following the EOL of LM35S (Stellaris Tempest series), the PCN proposed the following replacement part.

696993-01: LM3S5B91-IBZ80-C5 (Tempest) => Replacement TM4C1290NC (Snowflake/A0)

696719-01: LM3S9B96-IQC80-C5 (Tempest) => Replacement TM4C1294NC (Snowflake/A0)

 

I have few questions,

  1. Would like to check on any direct (MPN to MPN) migration guideline documentation for customer in order to help customer migrate from one to the other smoothly?

We review the available document from the TI web and it’s reference as general in the series. Please share if you have more details migration guideline based on above MPN to replacement MPN.

  1. Please share the proposed replacement MPN with the packaging.
  2. Do you have pin out comparison for the EOL and proposed replacement part above?
  3. In document SPMA035E, when it’s mentioned Stellaris LM3S, does it mean tempest or firestorm? Please clarify.

    Hello Leo,

    We do not have specialized guides for migration of specific GPN's. The general guides have been sufficient for all our prior customers to migrate platforms successfully. I will outline what they should be referencing.

    For starters, while the guide SPMA035 does includes for both Tempest and Firestorm - this is said at the top of the document: "This application report addresses design items to be aware of when migrating working designs among Fury-, DustDevil-, Tempest-, and Firestorm- Stellaris microcontrollers (MCUs) and Tiva C Series TM4C123x-class MCUs". - SPMA035 is for LM3S to TM4C123x MCU's, not TM4C129x MCU's.

    For the migrations they need (which are correctly identified by the PCN), they will be dealing with TM4C129x MCU's and therefore should reference SPMA063 which covers migrating Tempest and Firestorm devices to TM4C129x: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/spma063/spma063.pdf

    Furthermore, they should also reference this document which covers the software differences as they transition from StellarisWare to TivaWare: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/spma050a/spma050a.pdf
