EK-TM4C123GXL: IAR embedded workbench- Fatal error: No debug probe found connected to the usb port

Part Number: EK-TM4C123GXL

i have been using my ti tm4c123gxl with the iar embedded workbench ide for a while and yesterday i plugged in my launchpad and my computer no longer recognizes it. i tried deleting the drivers in the hopes of re installing them... but my computer wont even recognize that the board is even plugged in. i downloaded the latest icdi drivers and im not getting anywhere. my device can not be seen by my comp anymore.

  • Hi,
Not sure what went wrong. Did you know what program was previously written to the flash right before you were not able to connect? Do you have another board that you can connect that confirms it is not the problem with the PC side.

Can you try a few things?
    1. Can you power cycle the PC and do you still have the same problem?
    2. Can you try to use other IDE such as the CCS to connect? If you can connect via CCS, use the CCS to erase the flash
    3. Can you connect with the board via LM Flash Programmer? If you can connect via LM flash programmer then try a few things below:
    a. Erase the flash. Is this successful
    b. Go to the Other Utilities tab and click the "Unlock' button. This will perform a mass erase to the factory setting. See section 5.3.1 in www.ti.com/.../spma075.pdf
    c. In the Other Utilities tab and click the "Update" button. This will update the ICDI firmware.
    4. Debug the Jtag interface as suggested in section 6 of www.ti.com/.../spma075.pdf

If you still cannot connect by any means then the board may be just bricked. Hopefully you have another one
  • Hi Casey,

I'll add one more suggestion to what Charles offered, do check that the switch at the top of the LaunchPad is set to "Debug" and that you are plugging the USB cable onto the top port of the board labelled "Debug".
  • I will try this tonight and see if it works. Thanks. And yes I plugged into the debug port and the switch was in the debug mode. Board was on and running the program fine. But my computer did not see the device
  • i can connect to neither. the board worked fine. even after my last program. there was no complicated coding i was following a tutorial and i was able to debug no problem after my last code change. it hasnt been plugged in for a couple weeks as i have been away. and for some reason it would not register with the computer. no sound when connected or disconnected. drivers hadnt been changed. i wonder if removing all drivers and reinstalling would work but im not sure how the process of reinstalling works.  usually it automatically connects and downloads the device info. then i either need to use device manager to update the drivers or they are the newest version already. without the autoconnect and new hardware wizard i dont know how to do this. my computer just doesnt see the board anymmore. my second computer doesnt automatically see it either. the last code written still works. the red light blinks lol. i dont understand

  • Hi,
Please follow this app note to reinstall the ICDI drivers. www.ti.com/.../spmu287c.pdf

You can download the driver from this link. www.ti.com/.../STELLARIS_ICDI_DRIVERS

However, before you re-install the driver I will suggest you try two things first.

1, Can you connect your board to another PC. Do you have the same problem?
    2. Do you have another board that you can connect to your existing PC. Does this second board have problem.

By running these two tests you should be able to rule out if it is a board problem or a PC driver problem.
  • Hi Sergey,
I have not heard back from you. Did you have a chance to try what I suggested in my last post? I will close this thread for now. If you can connect the board to another PC and it still fails or if you can connect another board to your current PC and it works then it is very likely means that your first board may be damaged somewhere. If you still want to diagnose the problem you can follow section 6 in www.ti.com/.../spma075.pdf. If this is too much time for you then I will just suggest you move on to the new board. If you have new questions you can open a new thread as I will close this thread for now.
