CCS/TMS570LC4357: SYSESR is not updated for power on and cpu resets

Hi Team,

We are using TMS570LC4357 controller using CCS8.0. We could see that with Halcogen generated code with simple main function, for system resets, code was working fine.

But, for CPU or power on resets, SYSESR register value is not updated accordingly, which resulting in missing execution of certain functionality in the switch case in startup.c file.
Note: Please find the snapshot captured when the problem is reported (look for SysESR register).

Can you please look into this and let us know way forward?

Hello,
When power-on-reset is detected the PORST bit in SYSESR register is set. In sys_startup.c, getResetSource() is called where in case of power-on-reset SYSESR is cleared.

/* Clear all exception status Flag and proceed since it's power up */
SYS_EXCEPTION = 0x0000FFFFU;

If you want you can change this behavior bus the next reset source could be not properly identified (EXTRST is set also on power-on-reset).

Hi Miro,

Yes, we commented the code of clearing SYSESR register in getResetSource function and tested it. As you can see in the snapshot, the value is not getting updated. Can you cross check and confirm on this. The reason is that the initialization varies depending on the status returned by getResetSource function and we are getting wierd behaviour with this.
Probably, SysESR register might be updated bit late but this has to be confirmed. Most of the times, we could see SysESR register is getting cleared.

Hello,
You can read SYSESR register and check whether bit 15 is set. Then drive any unused pin high. In that way you can check whether PORST was set.

In the problematic case, after power on reset, SYSESR bit 15 is not set.

I did some tests.
In HL_system.c after "if ((SYS_EXCEPTION & (uint32)POWERON_RESET) != 0U) { "
i put:
systemREG1->ECPCNTL = 0x01800003;
systemREG1->SYSPC1 = 0x01 ;

Also in same file in systemInit I comment
//systemREG1->SYSPC1 = 0U;
and
/** - Setup ECLK */
//systemREG1->ECPCNTL = (uint32)((uint32)0U << 24U)
// | (uint32)((uint32)0U << 23U)
// | (uint32)((uint32)(8U - 1U) & 0xFFFFU);

After PORTST on ECLK1 pin I can see OSCIN.
This means PORST bit was set.
