TMS570LC4357: What to do with A/D inputs, VCC, REFs etc. when not used

Part Number: TMS570LC4357

I couldn't find any guidance on what to do with A/D inputs, REFs, and VCCs when the A/D is not used at all.  I have some suspicions, but would prefer to have them confirmed than to guess.  Thanks

  • Hello,

Even if you don't plan to use the on-chip ADC in your application, the ADC reference and operating supplies should still be within the recommended operating range. The ADC does not draw current from the ADREFHI unless it is performing conversions. You can also place the ADC core in a powerdown mode, so that the current drawn from the VCCAD supply is minimal (only leakage, ~5uA).

Unused ADC inputs can be left unconnected.

  • Thanks for the info. I am curious about leaving the inputs unconnected. According to the datasheet they have no pull on them, and would therefore be floating. Generally it is my practice to make sure that any input is in a known state, even if its core/owner is in power down mode. Would there be any adverse effects from connecting the input to GND? Thanks,

    Steve
  • Steve,

There are no adverse effects of connecting the ADC inputs to GND.
