Hi there ,

I was working with RM57L843 HDK and i erased complete Flash using Uniflash .

Now i cantt debug it with CCS or IAR , everytime i try i get this message that target endianness does not match ,

Then when i change the endianness to be32 which is wrong for RM57 , i get a message that my emulator board file cannot be opened .

If i try to erase the flash again it gets stuck there for ever .

Any clues ?? how can i fix this ?

Hi Ki-Soo ,

The issue is resolved by pressing both reset on the HDK i.e S4 and S3 either simultaneously or one after the other ..

The main cause of this problem was during debugging session the main power went off momentarily this caused the other core to prevent programming of the Flash .

For everyone working on this Board , please plug the power in UPS power output to prevent power outage.

Hi Ki ,

It has stopped working again , whether its IAR or CCS , when i try to download and debug :

1. It says endianness does not match it should be BE32 , which is wrong as RM57L843 is little endian .

2. When i change the endianess it says the target does not match at memory location 0x000020 location .

I can read read whole internal flash using UniFlash .

This problem started when i Erased the whole internal flash of RM57 , it is because of this .

Now how to recover it , how can i reprogram it ?????

Ahmed,
Since this happens with both CCS or IAR, this sounds more like a HW configuration issue instead of a CCS issue. I will bring this thread to the attention of the device experts

Please check your code project definition, either CCS or IAR. Make sure that you have chosen the correct target part number and endianness.

HI Sunil ,

Please see attached screen shot of target MCU and JTAG interface that i choose .

In Uniflash i am able to detect the device as well as JTAG cable i.e XDS100v2 , and also read back Flash Memory as well .

But i am unable to erase the flash or reprogram it .

Ahmed,

The flash memory is certainly not erased. The code in flash is most likely configuring the "Data endianness" bit in the processor's Program Status Register (CPSR) to be "Big Endian" which is why it is giving you an error when trying to execute another flash operation with little Endian mode.

Your choice now is to be able to erase the flash memory before doing any other operation. Can you erase the flash using Uniflash and then power-on reset the part? You can then program other code to the part, make sure that the "data endianness" configuration in the CPSR matches that of the part that you are working with (little endian in case of RM57x).

Ahmed,
The error messages in the Console indicate a JTAG connectivity issue. This normally occurs when the CPU enters an exception state that is a higher priority than entering a debug state. The only way to recover from this state is to erase the part. Also, you would need to make the JTAG emulator be able to halt the CPU before it enters this exception state. For this reason, please follow this sequence in CCS to try and erase the code that is programmed in the part.

1. Open the target configuration window, and launch the selected the configuration
2. Switch to debug window
3. Press the reset (nRST) button and hold it
4. Click “Connect Target” immediately after you release the nRST button
5. The board should be connected after couple tries

Hi Sunil,

I was able to get the MCU connected and running , BUT i doesnt jump on break pints also i am not able to Erase from CCS.

the steps that i follow are as such :

I open the project and click on .ccxml file , right click on it and launch the target configuration.

Right-click on the CCS project and confirm that the Endianness is "Little". Also make sure that the target configuration file (*.ccxml) used in this project selects the correct part number.

when i right clicked on .ccxml file i dont see any options of target MCU i only see the debug interface drop down menu .

also i tried single stepping and i did worked , but it steps into a assembly code starting from address : 0x00000600 to 0x00000700 and loops back .

So there is no solution to fix this problem , there is no way i can erase the flash and use this board again ??????

Once you are connected to the CPU and halted, reset the system using Run --> Reset --> System Reset. Then with the code execution stopped at the reset vector (address 0x0), execute the command to erase the entire flash memory.

Ahmed,

Can you try going to the On-Chip Flash options and enable the "System Reset on Connect" option BEFORE connecting to the device? This can help put the device in a "good" state and help resolve such issues.

If that does not work, please reproduce the issue with debug server logging enabled. ZIP up the log and attach it to this thread:
