RM48L952: The Instruction set for the N2Het.

Part Number: RM48L952

Hi TI

The N2Hets have a specific instruction set. The TI processor has a SIL 3 cert from TuV. Is there some test evidence that I can use to support our certification application that indicates that the instructions set of the N2Het has been verified ? I expect that this was performed for the certification of the microcontroller during the certification application, and involved the tool used to compile the N2Het code.

Please advise what is available.

Regards

Andy Walsh

  • Hi Andy,

The safety manual lists all the safety mechanisms and diagnostics that you can use to ensure correct operation of the N2HET modules.

  • Hi Sunil,

I agree that the manual indicates the measures to be employed in applications using the microcontroller peripherals etc. However the question we are being asked seems to be focused on processor and N2Het instruction behaviour verification. ie does instruction MOV A, R1 actually perform the required operation. I assume that this was done when the processor family was certified. If our assessor is happy with our statement that the Microcontroller is certified, then I do not need to continue searching for evidence that the Microcontroller instruction set for the processor and the N2Het has been verified. However to make sure we have the information to hand can TI provide a reference to it ?

  • Andy,

That becomes a question about verifying and validating the functionality of the individual IPs like the N2HET. This is done via the tests that are run on each part during the production test flow, and is an important aspect of ensuring that there are no "systematic issues" that could cause parts to fail dangerously.

The certification process by Tuv included an assessment of TI's development process for management of systematic faults. This "Safety Development Process" is also briefly described in the safety manual.

  • Thanks SUNIL, If needed I will share this with our assessor. I will leave this open for a couple of days if they require any further detail.
  • Andy,

I will close this thread for now. You can post another question to open it again.
