TM4C1294KCPDT: CAN baud rate selection

Part Number: TM4C1294KCPDT

We have a CAN bus network on which TM4C1294KCPDT acting as a CANOpen master which will communicate with 5 CANOpen slave devices (3 of them are motion drives).

If we have to decide CAN bus baud rate for such network, how should we arrive at the decision? (Any standard check-list, decision tree, criteria that should be followed etc)

  • Things to consider are the amount of data to be transferred, the length of the CAN bus and the capabilities of the transceivers. In general, choose the lowest standard rate that meets your current and anticipated future data rate requirements. Standard rates are 125Kb, 250Kb, 500Kb and 1Mb.
