EK-TM4C1294XL: Ethernet Jack Connector to be used for a compact Serial-to-Ethernet Converter

Part Number: EK-TM4C1294XL

Dear Sir,

I am on the verge of making my own Serial-to-Ethernet converter but while using the EK-TM4C1294XL Launchpad kit I came across a  "Pulse Transformer" which was connected between the jack connector and the microcontroller. So to make my design compact can you suggest me an Ethernet Jack Connector which doesn't need a pulse transformer or one which has a transformer in-built and can handle its own magnetism.

As per the design in the launchpad there is an Ethernet jack - Diode - Transformer - Microcontroller -UART nut as per my design I need a connection such that the connections are Ethernet Jack - diode(if required)- Microcontroller -UART.

And my data speed would not be more than 500Kb/sec. So can suggest an affordable/low-cost ethernet jack which would help me in the transfer of data without any loss and doesn't need a transformer.

  Thank You in advance.

  • Hi,

I will suggest you search through digikey or mouser for the RJ-45 with integrated magnetic. Below is the link to digikey for RJ45 with integrated magnetic. My understanding is that the cost of the RJ45 with integrated magnetic is more expensive than the RJ45 connector with the separate transformer as you see in the TI launchpad board. You may be paying higher cost for the smaller pcb footprint.

Below is one TI reference design that uses RJ45 with the integrated magnetic.
