Hi,

Hercules microcontroller has 32 ETM data trace ports.

Is it necessary to use all 32 trace ports during debugging? Our software debug VnV team is not sure on the number of ETM trace ports required. We are planning to use Lauterbach debugger (ETMv3 ARM ETM trace) for debug VnV.

If all 32 data trace ports are required, then is it possible to multiplex the signals dynamically (based on register setting)? The reason I am asking this is because, few of ETM trace ports are multiplexed with EMIF lines.

We are utilizing the EMIF interface in our design and would like to know if the register setting can be changed to use ETM data trace ports based on the need dynamically.

Hello Archana,

The port size is configurable. You don't have to use 32-bit port size. The ETM[7:0] signals are not multiplexed with other functionalities. TI CCS supports HW trace and supports port size from 8 bits to 19 bits. If you want to use 4 bit trace, you can configure the port size manually through the TPIU registers.

Yes, you can configure the pin multiplex dynamically.

Is there any calculation available to determine the number of ETM trace ports required for VnV based on core and ETM data ports frequency of operation?

I don't have this kind of information. I checked ARM forum, and didn't find the calculation you mentioned.
