TM4C1230H6PM: TM4C1230H6P working temperature

Part Number: TM4C1230H6PM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TM4C1230E6PM, TM4C123GH6PM, TM4C123FH6PM

Hi Team,

I have something to consult you as below.

1. TM4C1230H6PM's Datasheet shows the maximum junction temperature is 150°C, and maximum junction operation range is 96°C. Does it mean that the max recommendation is 96°C?

2. Customer's ambient temp is 105°C, how I can evaluate the junction temp is OK, based on the thermal characteristics as below? In another work, How I can know TM4C1230H6PM's dissipation power (maybe in its highest performance) to calculate the junction temp?

thanks a lot.

Best regards,

Yang

  • Hello Yang,

That device is only spec'd to work up to 85 C. Operating it at 105 C is out of spec. The junction temperatures will be higher than the ambient temperature. The junction temperature can be influenced by more than just ambient temperature. It can be impacted by neighboring IC's, airflow, packaging, PCB materials etc.

The maximum allowed ambient temperature for that device is 85 C.

However, we do have other TM4C MCU's which ARE spec'd to 105 C.

For example, there is a 105 C variant of the TM4C1230E6PM. If they can work with 128 kB flash space vs 256 kB, this would be an option.

If they need 256 kB Flash space, then the only devices which go to 105 C are a bit pricier as they all also contain USB OTG. The cheapest option here would be the TM4C123FH6PM or TM4C123GH6PM.

  • Hi Jacobi,

Thanks for your reply. I will pass your options to the customer.
