TMS570LS1224: issue of example of Hercules_Motorware

Part Number: TMS570LS1224
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MOTORWARE, TMS570LS1227, TMS570LS0714

Dear team,

I download the Hercules_Motorware_Dec2012.zip at the wiki page http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/TMS570LS12x_CNCD

I have some questions about the motorware, please help

The example is TMS570LS1227_sensored_smo_new.

1 Is the motor current AD sampling periodic or hardware triggered?

what is the period? How long does the DRV_run function need to be executed under fixed/floating operations?

2 Specific to different motors, in addition to the ENC_init, SMO_POS_init parameter settings, what should be configured?

3 Could the motorware be used on TMS570LS0714? Do we have any other tutorial?

BR,
Susan
  • Hi Susan,

See my comments for your questions below:

1 Is the motor current AD sampling periodic or hardware triggered?

    >> The ADC conversions are hardware triggered, synchronized to the PWM outputs.

what is the period? How long does the DRV_run function need to be executed under fixed/floating operations?

    >> The PWM frequency is 20KHz, so the period is 50us. The total number of CPU cycles for each component of the algorithm is specified in a document under the C:\ti\Hercules\MotorWare\v1.0.3.03\sw\solutions\foc_encoder_speed\boards\drv8301kit_revD\hercules\tms570ls1227\projects\ccs5\project01\docs folder, assuming that you installed Hercules Motorware under the C:\ti\Hercules folder.

2 Specific to different motors, in addition to the ENC_init, SMO_POS_init parameter settings, what should be configured?
    >> There is also a GUI for this Motorware program that allows you to configure the motor parameters. These can also be configured in the software directly.

3 Could the motorware be used on TMS570LS0714? Do we have any other tutorial?
    >> Yes, the linker command file needs to be updated to account for the different flash and RAM memory sizes, but the program as such is entirely portable from TMS570LS1227 to TMS570LS0714.
