As the MCU requires 'special handling' to program - it should be 'Quick & Easy' to install a proper label which may even identify the 'code version.'
Using client's proposed, 'Measuring a pin method' adds complexity - requires handling (subjecting the MCU to ESD damage) and offers NO ADVANTAGE over the 'presence or absence' of a 'confirming label.' Simply BAD idea...
