TMS570LC4357: Byte enables for external memory

Part Number: TMS570LC4357

Hi,

We are interfacing Hercules to an external FPGA as a 16 bit interface.

Is it mandatory to connect the byte enables (nDQM[1:0]) to FPGA?

As per my understanding, nDQM[1:0] is optional.  It is only for enabling 8 bit or 16 bit at external memory end.  We are operating EMIF in normal mode.

Even, if an external memory like SRAM is getting interfaced to Hercules and has BLE or BHE pins, we can pull down these pins for byte enabling instead of connecting to nDQM pins.

Please correct my understanding.
