CCS/TMS570LS1224: USB connection with an external power supply

Part Number: TMS570LS1224
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Dear Support Team,

I'm currently using the RTBox by Plexim and a Hercules TMS570LS1224 Launchpad to do HIL testing.
Plexim offers an Adapterboard which allows a very simple connection between the Launchpads and the RTBox.

On this adapterboard, a 3.3. Voltage is used to supply the Launchpad with the first Pin on the J1 Header.
My question now is: Is it possible, to communicate with the XDS110 Debug probe from the launchpad and flash software via the USB Port while also having this external power supply?

I have tried several jumper configurations only to receive one of the following errors:

Trying to flash with CCS 9.3:

Error connecting to the target:
(Error -2062 @ 0x0)
Unable to halt device. Reset the device, and retry the operation. If error persists, confirm configuration, power-cycle the board, and/or try more reliable JTAG settings (e.g. lower TCLK).
(Emulation package 8.3.0.00003)

Trying to erase Flash with Uniflash:

Error connecting to the target:
(Error -241 @ 0x0)
A router subpath could not be accessed. A security error has probably occurred. Make sure your device is unlocked.
(Emulation package 8.2.0.00004)

The emulation package should be 8.3 though.

Thank for your help,

Sebastian

  • Hello,

To supply LaunchPad externally you should connect 5V to J14 while removing Jumper cap from JP6. To provide LaunchPad  with 5V you can use connector pins that are directly connected to +5V net (for example J11.1) as well.  Apart from using J14 or pins connected to +5V net, JP6 has to be disconnected.

    3.3V and 1.2V are provided by DC/DC Converter U5.
