TMDSEMU110-U: Target powers down upon connecting debugger

Part Number: TMDSEMU110-U
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3358

Target board: Custom board with Sitara AM3358 processor with external power supply

IDE: Code composer studio

Debug probe: XDS110

This is the first time we are using XDS110 debugger and are referring XDS110 Debug Probe User's Guide for configuration.

As per user guide we configured target for external power supply and connected debugger to our board via JTAG.

Tested debugger firmware version and all and those things are fine.

Then loaded target configuration file for debugging, upon which  "supply to target is not provided"

error is thrown even though board is supplied with external power.

Please suggest where we might be going wrong.

"Supply to target is not provided" - error is thrown even though board is supplied with external power.

Have you (actually) measured the voltage at the MCU's Supply Pins - upon this error's being reported?

And - might there exist a, "Difference in Ground Potential between your Debugger & the External Power Supply?"

You must determine if it proves SAFE to:

    • continue to operate as you are doing (i.e. w/both the Debugger & External Power Supply)
    • only after you have confirmed the SAFETY of this approach - employ a suitable (low-value) resistor - to join the grounds of Debugger & External Power Supply

Often it proves useful (and insightful) to employ a, "Floating & properly rated Battery Source" - in place of your (assumed) line-voltage operated 'External Power Supply.'
