TM4C1294NCPDT: TM4C1294NCPDT

Part Number: TM4C1294NCPDT

I am working on  a new project which has CAN interface.  So I tried to get  a hands-on with TM4c1294NCPDT Launchpad.   I took two launchpad and connected the PB0 & PB1 of both directly (without any transceiver).  I modified the multi rx and multi tx examples from Tivaware to configure CAN1 (instead of CAN0).   However the messages are not received in launchpad which is programmed with multii rx.

Any ide what could be the problem?   Do we need the full setup with transceivers and terminating resistor?

Appreciate your help.

Regards,

Ramesh

  • Hi,

That will not work. You need to have the transceivers in order for the CAN network to work. For short distance you can do with a diode. See below example diagram. You can try with the diodes if you don't have the transceivers at hand. Please note the MCU operates at 3V, not volt as shown in the example diagram. Again this is for short distance and bench evaluation purpose, not ideal for real network in my opinion which requires the transceivers. Ultimately, you need to transceivers to set up the CAN network.

  • Okay.  Thanks for the clarification.
