Communication failure

I have implemented optical communication in my project, basically giving AC input supply. as i reverse the direction of line neutral, my communication fails, is it issue with my ground impedance? or how should i proceed. in both cases my controller receives right signal i checked the received signal in debug mode. Please help on same.
