TM4C1294KCPDT: SPI compatibility and alternates

Hello TI,
I am planning for use TM4C1294 micro-controller for my next project at work.

The primary requirement in terms of peripheral is

SPI (for memory interfacing)
I2C ( Sensor Interfacing)
UART (For external world Communication)
USB
Ethernet (USB and Ethernet are with "Either OR" condition at the moment"
ADCs
RTC
Temperature sensor (preferred on board but If not present on MCU external can be interfaced)
Multi functional GPIOs

So far I have shortlisted TM4C1294, however It does not seem to have SPI peripheral straight away.
Can you help me to get some insight on this??

Also suggest if TI has some other microcontroller with these peripheral and software support?

Hi Chitransh,

From your description, I think TM4C1294 MCU will certainly meet your requirement. There are four SPI modules in this MCU. We call it QSSI module. It can operate in the standard Freescale SPI mode as well as other advanced features. We have a full set of TivaWare library that will greatly aid in your software development. As a matter of fact, we just released the newest version 2.2.0 today. Please let me know if you have other questions.

Also there is TM4C123GH6PM of the same family that I am evaluating.

These TM4C series does not seem to have a ICSP programmer, do they??
A separate programmer will be needed to program them via JTAG or some other interface, Right??

Hi,

Do you use the ICSP in a loosely term as in In-Circuit-Serial-Programming or specific to Microchip ICSP? My understanding about Microchip ICSP is that it is a 2-wire interface. The TM4C123/TM4C129 supports both JTAG (4 wires) and SWD (2 wires) for programming. The SWD is a specific debug/programming interface for the ARM Cortex-M cores.

Hello Charles,
Indeed the ICSP of microchip is a 2 wire interface and I think SWD should suffice for that..

Correct me on below if I am wrong:

1. SW-TM4C TivaWare are a collection of Firmware libraries that you mentioned earlier.

2.Code Composer Studio can be used as IDE for the project.

and both the resources can be used "Free" for commercial purposes as well.

Your understanding is correct. Both the TivaWare and the CCS are free for your software development.

Hi Charles,

I needed to understand if I can make the development CMSIS compatible using Code Composer Studio.

Does it support importing CMSIS core and other parts for TIVA C series in TI's CCS.
