TMS570LS1224: Shutdown MCU using a command

Hello,

I need to run a test in which the MCU is programmed to communicate through SPI/UART to configure another one of my devices and then after this send the MCU itself to shutdown/turn off using an instruction on the program, but without removing the power. The reason for this is because I need to configure my 2nd device with the MCU and then shutdown the MCU to be able to measure the noise radiated by my 2nd device.

Because of the way this board was design (with both the MCU and the 2nd device in the same board and supplied by the same LDOs) if I remove the supply from the MCU I would also be shutting down the 2nd device.

So, in summary, I want to know if there is another way of turning off the MCU other than removing the power.

Hi Leslie,

You can put the first MCU in a sleep mode. This will be the quietest mode for you to measure emissions from the second MCU.

Hi Sunil,

Thanks for the suggestion (the 2nd device is not an MCU, is a battery management device).

I found datasheet section 2.4.3.1 "Typical software sequence to enter a low power mode". This is actually what I need. I need to be able to disable clock sources to see where the noise is coming from. Do you have a code example of how to do this? Even a basic code would help me get started.

Hi Leslie,

I am uploading a zipped file that has a CCS project for making the MCU enter a chosen low-power mode. This is done for the RM46x part, but you can adapt it for the LS12x part that you are using. You can choose the sleep mode for the quietest operation. Once in this mode a wake-up is only possible via an event signaled by a pin or a reset. You can configure a GIO pin, or a UART RX event as a wake-up condition.
