Part Number: HERCULES_SAFETY_MCU_DEMOS
Hi.
I'm looking for a safety dsp.
There is a rating in the filter to find the dsp.
There are Automotive, Catalog, and HiRel Enhanced Product in rating.
What are the characteristics and differences of each of these three(Automotive, Catalog, and HiRel Enhanced Product)?
I know a little about automotive parts.
The automotive parts go through a qualification process called as the AEC-Q100 (automotive electronics council) to check reliability for ICs in the transportation market.
What is catalog grade certified and what is used for?
but i don't know Catalog, and HiRel Enhanced Product.
Please explain so that I can understand.
Please recommend dsp or dsp rating for the safety of the collaborative robot.
Hi Kwan,
You are right, all the automotive parts are compliant with AEC-100.
Hercules devices (TMS570LSx, TMS570LC43x, RM4x and RM5x) are automotive grade ARM Cortex-R based microcontrooler. Hercules devices are TUV certified IEC61508 SIL3 and ISO26262 ASIL D microcontrollers for automotive and industrial applications.

So what's the catalog grade?
And what's the HiRel Enhanced Product?
All I want is an answer to the above question.
Sorry, TMS570LSx, TMS570LC43x are automotive grade device, but RM4x and RM5x are not automotive grade devices.
- IEC 61508 SIL 3 and ISO 26262 ASIL D Certified
- Auto Qualified to 125C ambient, 300MHz Max
- IEC 61508 SIL 3 Certified
- 105C max ambient, 330MHz Max
I don't know about the "catalog grade".
About HiREL (high reliability), Please refer to this link:
https://www.ti.com/support-quality/faqs/automotive-hirel-faqs.html
I'm asking again because I thought I might not have understood it because I misrepresented it.
DSP rating -> automotive, catalog, HiRel Enhanced Product
1) Can I think of catalog as the most general thing here?
2) I think Hercules TMS570 MCU looks better than Hercules RM MCU.
Is there a disadvantage of Hercules TMS570 MCU compared to Hercules RM MCU?
1. Normally the HiREL part is used for space, avionic, or military which requires high level of quality and reliability. For example extending temperature ranges from -55°C to 125°C. The temperature range for automotive part is -40°C to 125°C. For industrial grade, the -20°C to 85°C is required, and extended industrial requires -40°C to 85°C.
I prefer the name of industrial grade to catalog grade.
2. TMS570 parts is a better choice for transportation application, but industrial application may prefer RMx part which supports higher CPU speed.
Please refer to device datasheet for TMS570 and RMx
It depends on the system requirements of your robot product: for example temperature of working environment. General speaking industrial grade is good enough for industrial robots.
