In the reference design TIDEP 0092, I want the output as an ethernet interface instead of micro-USB. The IC- TM4C1294NCPDT has been used for the USB output in the AWR1642BOOST module. Is there a need to burn the IC with a different Firmware or some changes/configuration is required, so that the output is available at the pins to communicate. Also is this way to integrate the ethernet port correct or enough- e2e.ti.com/.../761863. Kindly confirm

Are you asking if the TM4C1294NCPDT that is currently on the AWR1642BOOST can be used for Ethernet? The answer is no, this device provides the debug interface and creates USB virtual serial ports from the serial ports AWR1642.

If your question is how to design a system with an AWR1642 that connects to Ethernet, then you should evaluate using the AWR1642BOOST on top of an EK-TM4C1294XL Launchpad, or MSP432E401Y MCU LaunchPad. These Launchpads have an RJ45 connector for Ethernet. You would be responsible for creating the firmware required.

As i can understand from your answer the TM4C1294NCPDT used in both the modules the AWR1642BOOST and the EK-TM4C1294XL Launchpad have different firmwares to operate. Then can i find the Firmwares so that i can build such a circuit - to read the data by applying another TM4C1294NCPDT which has such a firmware.

The launchpad has the same circuit provided- for conversion, but has unnecessary circuitry which is not needed. Kindly suggest what would be the best way to approach or

There are examples to guide you, but you would have to write your own firmware.

For development work, I suggest you use the he AWR1642BOOST and the EK-TM4C1294XL Launchpad together. When you design your final product, you can design a board with only the circuits you need. The JTAG can be done with a connector and an external JTAG scan controller.

No, the firmware controlling the micro-usb port has it as a device, not a host. That converter will not work.

Hello Sir,

I have a few more questions in my mind

EK-TM4C1294XL (ARM® Cortex®-M4F-Based MCU TM4C1294 Connected LaunchPad™ Evaluation Kit): Has two booster packs BOOSTER PACK1 and BOOSTER PACK2

AWR1642BOOST: The BoosterPack has the standard LaunchPad connectors (J5 and J6) that enable it to be directly connected to all TI MCU LaunchPads

So can you clarify which booster packs must be connected among themselves. So that the two boards communicate.

Moreover for the boards to communicate and the data to appear at the Ethernet RJ45 Connector is the firmware written on the board launchpad and AWR1642 sufficient or there is a need of changes in the firmwares for the data to seemly appear at the RJ45 CONNECTOR.

We are thinking that just the plug and play of both the modules would work… are we correct ?

If you are communicating between the boards using I2C, UART or SPI, either booster pack connector on the EK-TM4C129XL will work. It just connects to different peripherals on the TM4C1294 device. This is not a plug-and-play solution. You must write the firmware for the EK-TM4C129XL board that takes the information from the chosen interface, formats it and sends it out the ethernet interface.

Hello Harkrishan,

Most of TI EVMs are compatible on the headers pins so it can easily stack on each other.

As Bob mentioned, for connecting these two you first need to check if both has same interfaces and you need to write firmware to communicate b/w these two boards.

From the above two links you need to map the UART pins on the header of both of EVMs

TM4C** EVM-->

AWR1642BOOST EVM-->

You need to check both of the boards' schematic if these UART pins are from MCU is connected to these headers. Sometimes those lines are not connected to header pins by default so need to have a resister solder to make that line enable.

Here is an App-note for Serial-to-ethernet https://www.ti.com/lit/an/spma072/spma072.pdf for TIVA. UART is used as serial interface on TM4C*

So HW related confusion should be clear for you, now you can spend time on SW writing on both of the devices.

Can I use the CAN interface instead of UART for communication between boards TM4C1294XL Launchpad and AWR1843BOOST? If yes what would be a better option?

UART is a better option if just connecting between the two boards. CAN requires a driver chip and is best for networks.

Hello,

As mentioned in previous threads, I connected the TM4C1294XL with the AWR1843BOOST. But what I configured is that the AWR1843Boost is not sending data over Booster Pins as a result my launchpad does not get any serial data.

Kindly mention the changes required to get serial data on Booster Pins from AWR1843BOOST.

I checked the schematic. On close inspection what I can find is the points that you recommended to populate are associated with a resistor as per schematic R169 and R166. But in the bill of materials(BOM), the resistor R169 and R166 have a quantity of "0", from which I guess that this component has never been used in the circuit. Is the resistor necessary for data reception from RS232 RX and Tx or I can directly short the points of R169 and R166 in the board and still get the data from the header pins of J6.

Hello as mentioned above, to get the RS232 data on the J6 booster pins, I need to populate the two resistors as shown below

The resistors were already present but not connected so I connected them. But to my surprise, I am not getting the data on the J6 header.

But I need to know do I have to de-populate these resistors as shown because now I am taking data on J6 so the input should not be given to xds110

You may need to disconnect RS232 Rx/TX from XDS110 (remove that R128, R129 resistors), so RS232 Data can re-route to J6 header (make sure that you can connected resistors to J6[R169, R166).
