EK-TM4C123GXL: Accidentally ran LM Flash Programmer application(now doesn't work), whilst CCS was running

Part Number: EK-TM4C123GXL

Hello,

I was following a workshop workbook on Tiva C Series Launchpad and was working on lab2 on CCS (Code Composer Studio 9.3.0). I was following the workbook and didn't realize that CCS should be closed for LM Flash Programmer(build 1613) to work (otherwise, both of the applications fight to attain authority over the board). Later, I closed all of the applications related to Texas Instruments and then retried running LM Flash Programmer but didn't work.

I uninstalled, restarted my PC and re-installed LM Flash Programmer but had no luck there. I can work with the executable via command line but would help a lot if there is a fix for this.

PS: I didn't want to uninstall CCS as I would lose quite an amount of data as projects in doing so, didn't try uninstalling CCS.

Any help is much appreciated

  • HI,

When you said the LM flash programmer doesn't work anymore, can you elaborate the problem? What exactly doesn't work? Can you capture the screenshot? Are you seeing any errors? Having both the CCS and LM flash programmer try to connect to the target at the same time should not result in any one tool broken.

  • Hi Charles,

Thank you for the quick response.

To elaborate, when I mentioned, LM Flash Programmer "doesn't work", I meant, the GUI application, when run the .exe file from the place of installation, may have invoked the application but doesn't show anything on the screen. I did not observe any services running either, in Windows Task Manager, when I invoked the application. I would have attached a screenshot of the error, if I would have found any but there is no GUI interface running that I can take a screenshot of. However, I went up to the installation directory of the application and ran a " LMFlash.exe -h " and did get the output for it. I should have tried flashing the board via CLI to see if it is working. I am still thinking of a way to present the issue to you, in a better way but I am limited to thought, for the fact that running the application on GUI isn't displaying any GUI for me to see and capture any error logs.

The "04-ST_Flash_Programmer_Lab.pdf" said, on page 3, section 3 as follows:

    3. Run the Flash Programmer
Make sure that Code Composer Studio is closed … otherwise CCS and the Flash Programmer
will “fight” for control of the board

    And was my concern

  • Can you try either of the two things and see if you can get the LM flash programmer to come up?

    1. Change the Compatibility mode to Windows 7.

    2. If compatibility mode doesn't fix the problem. Try run it in Admin mode.

  • Hi Charles,

Thank you for the quickest response ever.

The run as administrator did work and I can see the GUI now. Thank you so much for the quick response again. Really appreciate it. TI is the best. Have a great week ahead.

  • Glad your problem is resolved. Thank you for the kind words.
