TIDM-1005: Extending M-Bus Secondary support

Part Number: TIDM-1005

Hi Team,

Good day.

Our customer is interested in the TIDM-1005 Data Collector With M-Bus And RS-485 Protocol Conversion Reference Design. Based on the design guide, it can support up to 100 M-Bus Secondaries, but our customers would like to extend it up to 250 Secondaries. What are the changes needed to implement to achieve this in the reference design?

Regards,
Carlo

  • Carlo, hello and good afternoon.  Our Grid team has been forwarded this inquiry and will review and respond.  Please allow us until Tuesday at the latest to respond.

  • Hi Carlo,

TIDM-1005 is a M-bus to RS-485 protocol converter and it uses "Solvimus M-Bus Master module" as an external M-bus master for validation. The limitation of 100 nodes comes from the power supply module used in this reference design. Number of nodes can be extended by appropriately designing the powering stage required to handle the nodes. From the software point of view, there should not be anything limiting it to 100 nodes.

    With Regards,
