TMS570LS0432: CanOpen End-to-End protection and Hercules Can SMs

Part Number: TMS570LS0432

We are using a TMS570 chip in a design and we would like to ask:

Can the E2E protection be sufficient to replace the safety mechanisms for the CPU DCAN Silicon Level Random Hardware Failures ?

Is our understanding correct that by having and end-to-end protection protocol on higher levels we can afford not executing SMs CAN1a-CAN20 of the Safety Manual?

  • Hello,

You can certainly implement a so-called "black channel" over the CAN physical layer using higher-level end-to-end checking. The hardware choice is also important for implementing a black channel. If you use any of the underlying hardware mechanisms to detect any of the communication faults, it is necessary to implement the relevant safety mechanisms listed in the safety manual.
