CCS/EK-TM4C123GXL: MCU control for the LED driver board (LED171596A)

Part Number: EK-TM4C123GXL
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LED171596A

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Dear support team,

I am a user of the EK-TM4C123GXL lauchpad. I use it to drive a LED driver board which is also from TI(LED171596A). My work requires to have a 50 Hz LED pulse trains, which I found not doable with the LED driver GUI software,

After I talked to another LED driver expert in your team, I wanted to ask how I can use the MCU to write the registers on the LED driver board to 0 and FFh within a 20 ms duty. I am not a experienced user of MCU so I wonder if I need to use any IDEs such as the code composer studio to do this or there is any other way to accomplish this.

Much appreciated if you could advise. Thank you!

Best,

Yi

  • Hello Yi,

I took a look through the other thread you have had and it sounds like you need I2C or SPI functionality and a timer. I would recommend you start with Code Composer Studio IDE and our TivaWare SDK: https://www.ti.com/tool/SW-TM4C

With TivaWare, we provide drivers for I2C/SPI/Timers/PWM etc. and also example code to use.

We have example code for I2C/SPI/Timer peripherals in [Install Path]\TivaWare_C_Series-2.2.0.295\examples\peripherals (Note SPI is named as SSI for TM4C)

We also have some code projects specific for the EK-TM4C123GXL LaunchPad which may help you such as:

    • Basic I2C: [Install Path]\TivaWare_C_Series-2.2.0.295\examples\boards\ek-tm4c123gxl-boostxl-senshub\humidity_sht21_simple
    • Timers: [Install Path]\TivaWare_C_Series-2.2.0.295\examples\boards\ek-tm4c123gxl\timers
    • PWM: [Install Path]\TivaWare_C_Series-2.2.0.295\examples\boards\ek-tm4c123gxl\pwm_interrupt

Those resources should get you going pretty quickly here, especially if you are using a LaunchPad for your development.

  • Thank you very much Ralph! Let me investigate into these helpful information and get back to you if I have further questions.

    Best,

    Yi
