CCS/TM4C129XNCZAD: The tm4c129xnczad controller is getting reset

Part Number: TM4C129XNCZAD

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

I am working on the TM4C129XNCZAD controller which is customized board, schematic  is same as DK Tm4c129xnczad board. The problem here is the controller is getting reset after every 1 or 2 minutes.

I have uploaded the uart example program, I2C loop back example problem to the customized tm4c129xnczad board but every 1 or 2 minutes the system is getting reset. Can you please tell me how to resolve the issues. I am not getting what could be the problem, is this hardware or software issue? . Please tell me how to resolve this issues.

  • It would help to have more specific information. How do you know the board is reset? Base on your description of "every 1 or 2 minutes" I assume that the reset is not at a fixed period of time. That leads me to suspect the hardware. I would start by examining the power to the TM4C device. Check both the 3.3V supply and the 1.2V core supply.

  • Thanks for the reply.

I have observed by checking with UART echo example program from the dk tm4c129xnczad controller code. When I flash the UART echo example code..in serial terminal application (termite/putty)  it will the print the enter text ...so we need to write send the data and will receive it in same termite application. But after 1 or 2 minutes again it will print the enter text...so again we need to send the data and will receive it.. like this we have checked.

I have tested same with i2c loop back program... when I have flash with this program ...the master and slave will send and receive data. Again after minutes it is again master will send and receive data.

The schematic is same as dk tm4c129xnczad controller .Is there is anything to do  with watchdog timer in the hardware.

Could you please help me to resolve the issue.

  • The watchdog timers must be initialized by software. The examples you mentioned do not initialize the watchdog timers. That also makes me suspect the hardware, specifically the power.  The possible reset sources are described in section 5.2.2. of the datasheet starting on page 233. The sources that can occur independent of the software are the Power-on-reset, brown-out power-on reset or RST pin reset. Make sure you have a pullup resistor on the RST pin. Try connecting with a debugger and looking at the value in the RESC (reset cause)  register to verify the source of the reset.
