Hercules MCUs are certified to be capable of achieving IEC 61508 SIL 3. Does this implies that it is guaranteed that all failure modes (or at least 99%) of the MCU can be diagnosed?
In particular, when interfacing the MCU with other system components, can we assume that there is no possibility that an MCU pin will fail (for example by shorting to Vcc) without being diagnosed either by hardware or software? That is of course when the MCU is operating without exceeding its absolute maximum ratings for safe operation.
