Other than JTAG, is there an option for this device to be programmed via serial programming (I2C, SPI, etc.)?

Only if a bootloader has first been programmed into the device by JTAG.

Happy New Year! Thank you for your response. I am just seeing CAN BUS as a supported serial interface/protocol for this and I am looking at the application notes related to CAN BUS Bootloader for Hercules Microcontroller.
