TMS570LS1114: Safety Mechanisms / Plausibilisations for ripped off tracks ( either only one track or both ) on the eQEP module

Part Number: TMS570LS1114

Dear support team,

in our project, we are using the EQEP module to run in quadrature encode mode. We are using the eQEP to determine spead and the N2hET Module for plausibilisation of the incoming signals.

Parallel running to the eQEP module, N2hET Modules are fed with the same signals Track A  / B, in order to purely count the edges of both tracks seperately. By doing this, an easy, low effort frequency plausibilisation can be implemented.

However, we ask ourselves, how we can react to one ripped off Track, for example Track A, or when both tracks are ripped off and thus permanently low ONLY on eQEP side.

Considering Fault 1: One Track is permanently LOW (Only on eQEP ) :

-> Would a unit position still be occuring, when using quadrature encoder mode? Or do the edges of both tracks need to occur in a plausible order? If so, we might use the overflow error flag (QEPSTS[COEF]) ?

e.g. Would UPEVNT still be the same, if Track B is LOW ?

Considering Fault 2: Both tracks are permanently LOW ( Only on eQEP ) :

-> Here I think we can definetly use the QEPSTS[COEF]) flag.

ANother idea was to use the phase error flag, but this one is only activated, when both edges of track A and B are caputred simultaneoasly. So this won't seem to work.

Can you give me feedback to the presented QEPSTS[COEF]) flag idea and maybe provide alternative solutions to the problems, if possible?

Otherwise, we can still only use N2hET for speed calculation, althouth the eQEP one is more accurate when getting into higher speed ranges.

Thank you and kind regards

Sebastian
