TMDSEMU100V2U-14T: XDS100 Emulator Letter of Volatility

Part Number: TMDSEMU100V2U-14T

I am asking for a letter or certificate of volatility for the XDS100 Emulator. This Statement or Letter of Volatility is a specification usually issued by device manufacturers. Its main function is to outline the volatile and non-volatile nature of the memory on the devices used on the XDS100 component. This letter, certificate, or statement is required so that users of the XDS100 Emulator can refer to this document to comply with security requirements and as a guide when handling the device in or out of secure work environments (classified work areas).

Please provide the document calling out all of the volatile and non-volatile memory components associated with the XDS100 Emulator and any appropriate sanitization procedures that may exist to clear the appropriate memory components. -- Thank you in advanced.

  • Thomas,

I will have to check into this.  We have provided these in some instances for debug probes such as the XDS110 in the past.  In this case the XDS100 product being used is from Spectrum Digital.  That product is based on a TI reference design however is it still a product that was produced and branded by Spectrum Digital.  Thus I will have to see if we are able to provide the letter but I am doubtful that we can.

Here is some information on the XDS100 design:

    • No volatile memory.
    • EEPROM 1KB configuration memory for FTDI USB controller.

The EEPROM can be erased and reprogrammed over the USB bus using tools from FTDI.

    Regards,

    John

  • Thanks John

I appreciate your looking into this.

It appears Spectrum Digital has ceased production Dec. 22, 2020 and has discontinued sales. I did sent their support team a message with the same request, we'll see what happens.

    Strange times!

    Regards,

    Tom

  • Hey John,

I've received a response back from Spectrum Digital and their support team defaulted back to TI.

I'll see what information you come up with before taking additional action.  I do have a Letter of Volatility questionaire I can send you to fill out which may suffice.

    Thanks again,

    Tom

  • Tom,

I have the form.  I will pursue it with our legal team.  But to be honest I think it will get turned down as it is a product based on a reference design.  In reality it is essentially exactly the reference design but the fact that it could be different than the reference design is going to stop it on our end.

The form even starts like this:

This letter of volatility provides information on the volatility of the memory in Texas Instruments’ [Part/Tool] (the “[Product]/[Tool]”), as more specifically described below.

Given this is a Spectrum Digital branded product that is going to be an issue.

Another option would be that Blackhawk DSP sells an equivalent XDS100 product.

    https://www.blackhawk-dsp.com/products/jtag-emulators/usb100v2d

They work a lot with companies in your industry so I would bet they would provide the letter for their version of the XDS100.  If you like I can reach out to them to confirm.

    Regards,

    John

  • Tom,

I heard back from Blackhawk.  They have no issues with providing a letter.  They can use their form or if you have one that your company prefers they can fill that one out as well.  Thus switching over to the Blackhawk XDS100 is a viable option.  They are very inexpensive.  Let me know if you want to go this route and I will send a private message with the contact at Blackhawk.

    Regards,

    John

  • That sounds perfect, thanks. Looking forward to the contact.

    Tom

  • I sent an E2E friend request.  Once that is accepted I can send a private message with the email contact for Blackhawk.

    Regards,

    John
