RM57L843: Adding Local static and global static variables variables in .map file in CCS

Hi team,

I am working on the project in which I want to parse all the variables (including global, local, static variables) from .map file in CCS 10.1.0.

After building project, I could not found any local and static variables in .map file.

How can I add all the local and static variables in .map file ?

Do I need to add some extra flags in compiler or linker option while building project ?

If anybody have any idea regarding this, Please help me in this.

Hello Pratik,

If the variables are not used, they will not be reflected in the map file.

If you are using the TI ARM compiler, see the sym_defs attribute in Managing Map File Contents (--mapfile_contents Option) for how to get static variables listed in the .map file.

The map file contents options can be specified in the project properties:

Yes, all the static variables have been used.

Thanks for help, After adding this flag I am able to see static variables in .map file.

But many of the local static variables have '$' character appended and some of the variables are are not ended with '$'.

What it means ?

What it means? Is that tells whether they are local or global static ?

I haven't been able to find it documented, but a simple test with TI ARM compiler v20.2.2 showed that a $<number> suffix is added to the names reported in the .map file for local static variables. I guess this is done to make the names unique within one compilation unit.

Yes, that's right.

I also found in my project that the variables which are local static having $<number> suffix in .map file and no suffix for global static.

The local static variables have $number (in order), and the global static variables don't have $number.

The first defined local static variable has $1 appended, and the 2nd defined local static variable has $2 appended.
