TMS570LC4357: Diagnostic PMM6 Self-test not mentioned as diagnostic in safety Manual

Part Number: TMS570LC4357

Hello Hercules Suppot-Team,

In the Safety Manual of the TMS570LC4357 the Power Domain Inactivity Monitor is mentioned as a possible Diagnostic (PMM6).  My understanding is, that this a Diagnostic, that is always running.
The description of the Diagnostic mentions, that it is possible to run a "Self-test".

(Q1) Why is there no seperate recommendation for running the Self-test like PMM5 for PMM1? Is it not recommended to run that Diagnostic?

Thank you and best regards,
Max

  • Hello Max,

There are several recommended test for PMM6 diagnostic: CPU lockstep compare, and watchdog.

  • Hello QJ,

Tank you for your Quick Answer.

According to the Technical Reference manual chapter 13.2.4 the Power Domain Inactivity Monitor (PMM6) has a Self-test mode.

(Q2) If I understand you correctly, we do not need to use the self-test mode, because the recommended possible tests for Diagnostic are sufficient?

  • Hello Max,

If any power domain (PD3, PD4, PD5, or PD6) is turned off in your application, the PD inactivity monitor compares the bus outputs from the power domain and their inactive states. If the bus outputs are not in inactive states, the CCM-R5F-PD monitor failure flag in ESM (ESM 2.28) is set.

The PD Inactivity Monitor self-test is to test its compare logic. and it can be used when ESM 2.28 is set.

  • Hello QJ,

So the Self Test is usefull to check if an error was generated because of a failure of the compare logic.

    Thank you, this information helps,
    Max
