UNIFLASH: problems with Sync command on uniflash (using FT232RL usb to Serial converter ic chip)

Hello, I have been trying to get the uniflash program to flash a .hex file (built in CCS V10) onto a MSP430G2553 microcontroller. I have had success with flashing the program on the MSP430G2553 chip using the MSP-EXP430G2ET launchpad. However, when I try using a FTDI FT232RL USB-Serial converter (set to 3.3V logic level for serial communications) to flash the MSP430G2553 chip I get a readout in the console section stating that "the response byte for sync command from bootloader is not recieved" and an error message; both are shown in the below image. Any advice on what is causing this error would be greatly appreciated.

Hook up of FT232RL breakout board to MSP430G2553 chip:

FT232RL MSP430G2553

RX ---------> TX

TX --------> RX

DTR --------> RST

RTS --------> TEST

3.3Vdc -------> 3.3Vdc

GND -------> GND

Your goal here is to download image into MSP430G2355, right?

If so, there are two ways to download the image into the msp430:

1. JTAG(4Wire JTAG or SBW)

2. BSL UART interface(P1.1 and P1.5)

"I have had success with flashing the program on the MSP430G2553 chip using the MSP-EXP430G2ET launchpad. " which way do you used in this case?

For " FTDI FT232RL USB-Serial converter " you can only use BSL UART interface, to use the BSL the first step is to invoke the BSL. For more information about the BSL invoke you can refer to the BSL user's guide section 1.3

Hello Gary,

I understand that I need to invoke the BSL in order to program the MSP430G2553 microcontroller, however the UNIFLASH (V6.2.0) states in the error log (shown below), that it is trying to invoke BSL, but getting no sync byte back from the MSP430G2553 microcontroller. I was wondering what may cause this and if there was a solution to this error.

Hello Gary,

I was wondering if there was more recent version of the Uniflash user's guide, as the most recent version I could find on the TI site has a revision date of July 2019, for use with uniflash versions 4 and 5.
