TMS570LC4357: KEIL or IAR compatability and Safety Feathers

Part Number: TMS570LC4357
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HALCOGEN

Hello,

As I was searching for Safety Controllers for our project with application in Railways. I came across TMS570LC4357 Hercules MCU series with an Cortex R5 core.

I was bit confused regarding its Safety Feathers and Its compatibility regarding development software.

Please clarify my doubts as mentioned below,

1. Does TMS570LC4357 used for Railway signalling applications that require standard Certification of EN 50129, with an Safety Integrity Level of SIL 4

2. Does TMS570LC4357 have its development software compatible with KEIL or IAR, as we require software also to be with a standard Certification of EN 50128, with an Safety Integrity Level of SIL 4.

  • Hello TEMC,

    1. TMS570 devices is suitable for use in SIL 1/2/3/4 systems. To enable SIL 4, a hardware fault tolerance (HFT) = 1 is required for type B hardware designs. In practical terms, this means that SIL 4 systems cannot be realized without implementation of multiple hardware channels, generally as multiple physical components. Most of the SIL 4 systems I have seen are based on the use of multiple SIL 3 channels; for example, a SIL 4 system might be realized using multiple SIL 3 capable TMS570 products.

    2. Our driver generation tool (HALCoGen) does support IAR. The IAR (8.0 or earlier version) supports out F021 Flash APIs. The functional safety diagnostic library includes several examples for IAR IDE:
