TMS570LC4357: Difference between Lockstep Compare Self-Test of VIM15, PMM5 and CPU8

Part Number: TMS570LC4357

Hi Experts,

The Safety Manual mentions 3 different Lockstep Compare Self-Tests (VIM15, PMMM5 and CPU8). If I understand correctly PSCON and VIM outputs are compared by the CCM-R5F module. Since it is the same module and compare logic, running the self-test CPU8 should be the same as running VIM15 or PMM5.

(Q1) Is my understanding correct or is there a difference between CPU8, VIM15 and PMM5?

EDIT: After reading some more, I realized that each test has to be started seperatly, but can be run simultaniously.

(Q2) Is that correct?

Thank you and best regards,

Max

  • Hello Max,

The CCM-R5F compares the outputs of two CPU cores as well as the outputs of 2 VIMs. But the outputs of each primary PSCON are compared by it's own compare logic.

6 CPU cycles after CPU comes out of reset, CCM-R5F starts to compare the outputs from CPUs core, and the output from 2 VIMs. Two comparisons(CPU, VIM) run independently.

In self-test mode or error forcing mode, the CCM-R5F doesn't compare the predefined test patterns instead of the outputs from CPUs and VIMs.
