Hi Team,

We couldn’t find the RTC battery backup (VBAT) pin described in the datasheet of MSP432P401RIPZR.

Please check and let us know, how the microcontroller RTC battery backup has to be provided and how RTC is implemented in the microcontroller.

Hi Denny,

Did you mean the MSP432E401Y? You will have to show me where in the 432P401R DS you see this.

Hi Dennis,

Sorry, if i was not clear in explaining it.

From my understanding this micrcontroller MSP432P401R has RTC but doesn't have any options to connect backup power such as Coin cell battery. In our application we need to keep accurate time and date, even when the input DC supply is powered off.

So should we use any external ICs such as BQ32002DR with this micrcontroller.

Please help.

Hi Denny,

Yes, you are correct. The MSP432P401 does not have an option of a battery backup for the RTC. Your solution is fine.
