TMS570LS0714: Doubt about UART Ports and debugging

Hi,

I am using the microcontroller above mentioned for a battery management system application, specifically the 100-pins package one. I am having some doubts when researching about this device communication ports.

1- This micro owns two UART ports. One of them is called LIN-RX/TX, but I don't know where is the other and I need both of them for my application.

2- About the debugging: I'm also trying to figure out a circuit for uploading my code inside the micro, do you have any suggestion about a possible scheme or something? I have always worked with development kits that include this feature and this is the first time I'm using the "undressed" microcontroller.

Hello Nicolás,

1. TMS570LS0714PZ 100-pin package has only one SCI module. It is named as LIN module in device datasheet. You can develop an emulated SCI using N2HET signals. Please refer the BMS TI design:

2. You can upload the code using CCS or uniflash through the JTAG, or you can upload the code to flash using bootloader: UART or CAN

Hi,

Thank you so much for your answer. I have to figure out how that SCI emulation works.

Other question related to this micro: am I forced to use an external oscillator or is it only an option for increasing the clock frequency?

Yes, you need to use an external oscillator or crystal.

The internal HF LPO is used as the reference clock for monitoring the OSC clock frequency. It is also used as clock source (system clock) If OSCFAIL triggers and the device goes to the failsafe mode.

Hi Nicol,

As stated in device datasheet, you can use either a crystal or an external oscillator.

For using crystal, the load capacitors should be placed across the external OSCIN and OSCOUT pins, and a proper value of load capacitors should be choose to best tune the crystal to the MCU.

For using the external oscillator, the external clock should be 3.3V clock signal, and connected to OSCIN pin. The OSCOUT pin can be left unconnected.
