TMS320F280049C: CLB to extend EPWM channel

Part Number: TMS320F280049C

Dear C2000 expert,

As you know that F280049C only have 16 channel high resolution PWM in datasheet. But if I want to use one F280049C to have 32 channels PWMs, and all of them could  high resolution PWM(150ps).

Forther more, each PWM channel can have period/16 phase shift, for example,

1. EPWM1 is master, no phase shift,

2. EPWM2 sync to EPWM1, period/16

3. EPWM3 sync to EPWM1, 2*period/16

4. EPWM4 sync to EPWM1, 3*period/16

... ...

16. EWPM16 sync to EPWM1, 15*period/16

I'm not sure if CLB could be able to support the above requirement, if so, can you please share some of suggestions of how to realize?

Thanks,

Jack

  • May I have some update about this?

  • Hello Jack,

Apologies for the delay, Fri, April 7th was a holiday for us at TI. Happy to help you now!

Unfortunately, according to these threads (here and here), the CLB will not be capable of complicated logic with HRPWM-compatible timing. However, according to this thread, simple, asynchronous combinational outputs are possible with the CLB on this device. If it is possible to reduce the logic of your HRPWM outputs to be simple combinational logic with respect to other HRPWM channels, you should be able to do what you're looking for.

    I hope that helps,

  • Jason,

    Thanks for your effort here.

For this PWM, there is no logic of HRPWM, only have phase delay. I'm not sure if it's possible?

And another question, is there any training vedio about CLB? Thanks....

  • Hello Jack,

This is a link to the C2000 CLB introduction videos. I hope it helps!

As for generating additional ePWM channels by utilizing the CLB, I believe it should be possible (CLB example 3, 'CLB Auxiliary PWM', describes how to do exactly that) but I am uncertain if that will get you to 16 additional PWM channels.

    Regards,
