Hi,team
My customer have the following questions.
"
I want to use LAUNCHXL-F28379D and BOOSTXL-POSMGR to communicate with the encoder by BiSS-C.
I have confirmed that the clock can be output to C+/C- as expected, but I am debugging because I cannot confirm the ACK signal from the encoder.
The encoder used operates on 10V~30V DC. I have connected an encoder cable (BN) to the J7-5 pin on the BOOSTXL-POSMGR, but +15V is not output from the J7-5 pin.
Power is supplied from Launchpad-5V to BOOSTXL-POSMGR.
I checked the BOOSTXL-POSMGR schematic and it seems that the J7-5 pin is not connected anywhere. Is this pin supported?
Is there something wrong with me choosing the Launchpad-5V instead of the external power supply?
Please tell me how to supply +15V to the encoder and receive ACK from the encoder.
Operating environment
Encoder: Kuebler 8.F5863.1426.C423
Encoder cable: Kuebler 05.00.6041.8211.002M
Power supply: Launchpad-5V (J5: 2-3 short)"

Katherine
Hi,
I will have to reach out to another expert to get help answering this question.
Best Regards,
Ben Collier
Hi,Benjamin Collier
Okay, we look forward to hearing from you.

Hello, Katherine,
Only 5V absolute encoders are supported on the BOOSTXL-POSMGR.

Hi,Lori Heustess
Thank you for your response and I will pass on your response to my customers.

Hello Lori, thank you for your response.
I am the customer who asked Katherine this question.
I have one more question.
I already bought a 10-30V drive encoder and BOOSTXL-POSMGR, so I would like to somehow achieve BiSS-C communication operation with this combination.
If I don't use the BOOSTXL-POSMGR (J7-5pin) to power the encoder and supply 10-30V power directly to the encoder, will it be possible to use encoders other than 5V?
I thought that the +V voltage would not affect the BOOSTXL-POSMGR as long as it was a one-way communication without using a position reset using the SET signal.
Regard,
Yukako
If the RS485 line drivers on the BOOSTXL_POSMGR are compatible with the encoder then I don't see any issue powering the encoder separately. You probably will need to have a common ground connection.
Hello Lori,
It took me a while to check the operation and the specifications of the encoder, so I couldn't answer, but I haven't solved it yet, so let me ask you an additional question.
Kuebler 8.F5863.1426.C423 is written as a BiSS-C Encoder example in TIDM-1010 Design guide (JAJU533.pdf) Section3. I read the documentation and thought that TIDM-1010 and Kuebler 8.F5863.1426.C423 could do BiSS-C communication.
I measured the C-/C+ output from the TIDM-1010 and it was 1V to 3V. Encoder BiSS interface - Signal levels are L=1.3V and H=3.8V. Does it mean that the RS485 line driver in BOOSTXL_POSMGR (TIDM-1010) doesn't support the encoder?
I purchased the following hardware environment described in JAJU533.pdf. Please let me know if BiSS-C communication is possible in this environment.
Regards,
Yukako
Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
As a result of having the encoder manufacturer look at the waveform, they answered that the encoder driver may be broken.
I will close this matter.
thank you for your kind response.

Yukako
