There are some motor control examples for F2833x devices in controlSUITE under development_kits\HVMotorCtrl+PfcKit_v2.1.

We have newer motor control reference designs in the MotorControl SDK, but most of them are focused on newer devices as you can see in the release notes.

Can the Motor Control SDK not be used on the F28335 at all, or are there just no examples provided?

The MotorControl SDK targets our newer generation of devices only. You might be able to port parts of the code to F28335, but hardware differences in many of the peripherals will make it difficult to port a full example.
