LAUNCHXL-F28P65X: Unable to scan to EtherCAT slave

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F28P65X
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83826E

Hi Team,

My customer tried to scan LAUNCHXL-F28P65X through TWINCAT to perform the ethercat communication experiment in the routine. As a result, the slave station could not be scanned. The fault phenomenon is consistent with the original post.

Could you please tell us which model of PHY device needs to be replaced? Or does the new demo board already solve this problem?

Thanks & Regards

  • Hi Yale,

If the customer's Launchpad was shipped after January 11th 2024, then this issue should be resolved. If the launchpad was shipped before that date, then they likely have the issue that you are referring to with the Launchpad PHY.

You can resolve the issue by replacing the DP83826E PHY (Rev 0) with a new DP83826E PHY (Rev 1). We also plan to release a software fix for this issue soon, since the issue is related to the setup/configuration for the PHY.

    Best Regards,

    Ben Collier

  • Hi Ben,

Is there probably any time estimation for the software fix?

    Best Regards

    Armin

  • Hi Armin,

Actually it looks like it will not be possible to do a software fix without at least some soldering. We have a meeting tomorrow to discuss how we will handle this. There is a possibility that we will replace your board if you ship it back to us. I will post an update tomorrow.

    Ben Collier

  • Hi Ben,

    Thanks for your quick response.

I already ordered DP83826E from TI for 2 LAUNCHXL-F28P65X that we have in the company. Of course I can also ship the boards back to you. For me it depends what would be faster. We have a deadline for a feasibility study report and we badly need the boards.

    Thanks for your support.

    Kind Regards,

    Armin

  • Armin,

I would guess that it will be faster for you to replace the DP83826E parts yourself. I apologize for the inconvenience, and I'll still update you when we make a decision about replacing the boards.

    Best Regards,

    Ben Collier

  • Thanks Ben.

No problem. I'll keep you informed when I've replaced the parts.

    Best Regards,

    Armin

  • Hi Ben,

I just replaced the parts and it works as expected. Below you can see the part marking of the DP83826E that works.

Could you please let me know if I order a new LAUNCHXL-F28P65X from TI website, would it be with the old parts or already updated?

    Thanks for your support.

    Kind Regards,

    Armin

  • Armin,

Glad to see you got it working! All launchpads shipped in January 2024 or later will have the new PHYs, so they will not have this issue.

    Best Regards,

    Ben Collier
