Nicholas started this thread for a project I'm working on. I tried both CM and CPU1 echoback solutions. I did the preliminary steps for the CM example to transfer control from CPU1 to CM.

I *think* a lead has been found in that CCS was not keeping build target settings after applying them. I eventually got the CPU1 example to run once and the EEPROM values were read out as all Fs from the EC-Engineer software. Will continue to debug. While that is happening please help to confirm the latest tested versions of these bits of software with TI's solutions.

I have not used EC Engineer, only TwinCAT 3.1

As for the others: 

CCS: 12.5 

C2000WARE: 5_01

ETG SSC Tool: 5.12

Also just want to point out that the CM examples require that you run the 'allocate to CM' project on CPU1 before you run the CM echoback solution.

Thank you for reporting these version numbers.

I have an update in that the CM Echoback solution does not ever get detected by the EC-Engineer tool. CPU1 Echoback solution does get detected but I am stuck in that I need a EEPROM binary to load to the device.

But this bring up 2 other questions:

- Where does one get the demo binary spelled out in section 3.2 of this document: https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=A__AP7gzDELQ84EjLA96y5RSQ__c2000ware_software_package__gYkahfz__4.03.00.00?

- How does a user generate a EEPROM .bin file to load onto the subDevice through a program like EC-Engineer or TwinCat?

I figured out how to lcreate a EEPROM image from an ESI file, but the writing is unsuccessful to the EEPROM; it times out repeatedly.

Another note: if the 'allocate to CM' project is required to be run on the device before the CM echoback (or others), what does that mean? RAM? Flash? It doesn't seem to matter in that neither path results in CM echoback responding to a EtherCAT mainDevice.

In an application setting, you will have to load the 'allocate to CM' to flash so it is not erased with a power cycle. For debug purposes it is fine to load it to RAM.

I am stuck in a state where the EEPROM will not write from the EC-Engineer tool - the subDevice times out. Could you advise on next steps for debugging? This is unmodified code from TI's examples for CPU1 Echoback, what else is needed to get the example to run?

I have not had this problem with using TwinCAT, I have been able to run these examples by exactly following the steps in the EtherCAT User's Guide.

I could give you some steps to program the EEPROM without the ESC, but I am not sure if that will solve your problem. Please let me know if you want that.

Sorry that link is not working for me, could you please send a screenshot? I assume you are asking about where to get the binary for programming the EEPROM? When programming the EEPROM from twinCAT, we provide an ESI file like you mentioned above.

This issue does not affect any F2838x hardware, but you could use the code provided here to program your EEPROM without the ESC. You would have to find different pins to use, but the code should work on your device.

No it's the pre-built binary for EtherCAT examples on the C2000. Which doesn't exist in C2000ware.

The "f2838x_cpu1_echoback_demo_FLASH.out" file is not part of C2000ware and is not extracted by "ethercat_slave_ssc_and_demo_setup.exe". How does one get this?

The TI reference document is this:

Still waiting to hear back about this, but I ran the setup.exe in C2000WARE 4_01, and the .out file shows up in the examples folder as expected.

Not sure why the demo is not working in 5_01, but please use 4_01 in the meantime if you would like to try out the demo.
