F29H850TU: Mult-core debugging issue on CCS Version: 20.3.0.14__1.9.0

Tool/software:

I'm using CCS Version: 20.3.0.14__1.9.0 to start a debug session with an F29H850TU. CPU 2 and 3 are configured to halt the target on a connect. However, they just show "running" after a connect even though they have not been flashed (and cannot be halted). CPU1 can be flashed and runs and halts as expected. I'd like to flash CPUs 2 and 3 but cannot. Can you provide some suggestions?

Hi Robert,

I would recommend trying a different approach where you can utilize 'Project-less Debug' as described here: https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/users_guide_ccs/ccs_debug-main.html#debug-properties. As you may already know, loading CPU1 out file also takes care of flashing CPU2/CPU3, so project-less debug is the preferred method. It is also possible to modify the launch.json (when using project-less or project debug) as described in the second bullet/screenshot in this link.

Thanks for your reply. I tried the following:

right click target config file and choose Start Project-less Debug
connect core 1
load program core 1
run core 1 to ESTOP0
connect core 3
load program core 3
run core 3 and core 1
core 3 runs and halts as expected.
core 1 cannot be halted and debugger output shows: C29xx_CPU1: Warning: Target CPU may be stuck in a persistent fault state

Do you have a suggestion for why core 1 cannot be halted and how to determine the cause of this condition?

Robert,

Do not load the program onto CPU3 as this is taken care of in the third step. In other words, we are loading CPU3 code via CPU1. Reset CPU1 + POR and try again. Note that the instructions for running multi-core (and all other) examples can be found in the C file header.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have reviewed and tried the suggestion. I skipped the “load program core 3” step. Core 3 still runs and halts as expected. However, core 1 still does not halt and the warning persists: C29xx_CPU1: Warning: Target CPU may be stuck in a persistent fault state.
