TMS320F28P650SK: Combination of EVMs & SDK(EtherCAT, GaN, BiSS-C)

Part Number: TMS320F28P650SK

Hi experts,

We are considering a development kit for a BLDC motor driver and would like to know the combination of EVMs and sample projects that can evaluate the following features:

  • Support for EtherCAT communication
  • Adoption of a GaN power stage
  • Support for encoder interfaces such as BiSS‑C

We are thinking of controllers such as F2838x, F28P65x, and AM26x, but other options are also acceptable.
From what I have researched, there seems to be no EVM that combines GaN and BiSS‑C, so I believe software customization (porting) will be necessary.
Please let us know the combination that allows us to move to evaluation as quickly as possible.

Best regards,
O.H

  • Hi experts,

Sorry for rush you. Is there any update?

  • Hello,

There are some upcoming reference design which will support all this. for example:

    https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-010979

    which will support:

Multi-protocols support for position feedback interface with PRU_ICSS on AM261x device (including BiSS)
Multi-protocols support for Industrial Ethernet communication with PRU_ICSS on AM261x device (including EtherCAT).

The SW package will be released 1H2026.

For now, you can start with any of these as starting point. you can use "Universal Servo Drive" and add the target position. The library file for all mentioned absolute encoders are available for mentioned devices. The T-format is already added/tested in this example and will be downloadable for public in next c2000 motor control SDK in 1Q2026.

    Best Regards,

    Masoud

  • Hello Masoud,

    Thank you for your information.

By the way, are there any plans to offer options based on the C2000? (The customer is familiar with C2000 development.)

I overlooked this, but it appears that EtherCAT software is not implemented in "Univeral Servo Drive". Does EtherCAT need to be added to the sample code? Are there any plans to add it to the SDK?

    Best regards,
