TMDX28069USB piccolo control stick

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28069

I just connected DSP control stick (TMDX28069USB) and run the simple blink led program. the program got build properly but during debug, i was getting error as shown in figures  and  . This error continued and the TMS320F28069 IC and one small IC near Green LED was getting hotter and hotter, giving fatal error in connecting the target. The Red LED has stop blinking. This was the New DSP that i have purchased online through TI website. out of 4 DSP which i have order only one among them is working. I have send mail to tiasia@ti.com and they told " We got the reply from our USA team, due to your order was pasted 90 days warranty, so we highly suggest you to go to our E2E at http://e2e.ti.com/ and consult with the relative engineer there. They can authorize a replacement once it is determined the application is sound"  and my Service Request# SR#1-2139982961. So Please tel me what to do now.

  • Hi,

This seems like LDO issue. Your LDO might've got spoilt while testing at the first time. Later you replaced controller without replacing the LDO and hence controllers kept getting damaged. Did you replace the LDO ? I'm talking about U3 - TPS73233.

    Regards,
    Gautam
  • Hi Doly,

First of all, I'm sorry for the issues you are having.

I noticed your other post as well:
    https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/c2000/f/171/t/518403

Can you confirm that the 1 is working as expected - with no problems?

Also, it seems you ordered on 03Feb, why are you only now finding the issue?

If you want to friend me on E2E, we can discuss this more over private message.

    Thank you,
    Brett

  • Respected Sir,
Sir when i ordered DSP, that time i was working on the implementation of hardware circuit i.e. driver circuit and power circuit. I did not check the DSP TMDX28069USB control stick. At the end of March i started doing coding for switching pulses. During that time i was using only one of the control stick. I was able to generate all the pulses properly, sir if you want i can send you my switching pulses code along with the photographs of the gate pulses that i obtained. Sir was not aware of 90 days warranty period else i would have discussed much earlier, i was busy asking other people about the problem. One of my friend from other college discuss this problem with his sir and his sir told to send mail my problem related to DSP to this mail id "tiasia@ti.com". That why it took me so long.
  • Respected Sir,
Sir you are right, today i check the DSP and found that in two DSP TMDX28069USB control stick, U3 and the TMS320F28069 I.C. are getting heated up and in 3rd DSP only U3 is getting heated. The LDO got damaged.
  • Hi Doly,

Based on what you have described, I agree that the 3 of the controlSTICKs you received should be replaced.

In your ti support email chain, I would recommend providing a link to this forum thread.  This should allow your request to continue.

    Thank you,
    Brett

  • Respected Sir,

    Thanking you.

    with regards,

  • Hi,

Whomever you bought the kit from is who you should contact.  If you bought it from the TI eSTORE, then I believe that contacting tiasia, like you have, is appropriate.

In whatever correspondence you have with the people you bought the kit from, please give them a link to the forum thread which we are currently talking in.
    https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/c2000/f/171/p/518757/1887322#1887322

Giving the seller the link will let them know that TI is willing to allow a replacement.
(in many cases, a customer damages a board as the customer begins to explore the kit outside of it's narrow usage.  This is fine, but TI doesn't want to offer replacements in this case.  Your situation seems more like the board may have been slightly faulty when you received it - so we are okay with issuing a replacement in this circumstance)

    Thank you,
    Brett
