5V GPIO DSP

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXB0104, CONTROLSUITE

Hello,

I have two questions,

1. I am looking for a DSP or Controller that can provide output signals of 5-5.5V (I know most of the DSPs this days work on 3.3 V GPIO ).
I have 8 channel bi-directional voltage level shifter to drive my signal to 5.5 V but to go on a very high frequency(50 kHz pulses) in the output signals       are receiving noise. If there is any DSP or Controller than can give me output signals of 5 V level it will be great help.

2. If  i can't find a DSP with  5V o/p than i will have to order F28335. For a beginner what i must include when i am ordering the DSP(I plan MATLAB/simulink with the DSP )?  It seems that the experimental kit would be good enough but just wanted to make sure i am ordering everything i must order.

Thanks,
Chintan

  • Hi Chintan,

    1) As you've suggested, many DSPs/MCUs work with 3.3V GPIO.  To interface our C2000 part to 5V signals, some translator chip will be needed.

I might recommend something like the SN74LVC8T245PWR.  If you need the chip to be truly bidirectional (changes direction during run-time), I've had some success with the TXB0104.  Please pay attention to the datasheet requirements for that chip (requirements on pull-ups, etc).

For more guidance on finding the right translator chip, I might recommend posting to the "Voltage Translation/Level Shifters Forum".  They would be able to offer the best guidance.  Your datarate requirements should will be able to be met with the right translator chip.

    2) The F28335 Experimenter's Kit is a great starting point for most projects.  While you're waiting for it to arrive, you can install controlSUITE (C2000 software repository) and the most recent version of CCS (the IDE program used to develop software with the C2000).   To interface the kit with MATLAB, I might recommend taking a look at the collateral in the following link:

    Thank you,
