Motor control software and hardware

Dear Team:

we need a motor drive solution (motor control software and hardware) to control a NewMoTech DWS6003SKI common washing machine motor.
We need the hardware and software just to control the motor—we can design the rest of the human interface.

I attached the motor specification (pdf) and motor parameters .
Or if you have an alternative motor, we will examine that too..
I’m not familiar with what types of motors your hardware and software solutions can control.
I need a recommendation for just the motor drive hardware and software.
Before I purchase a TI motor drive demo board, I would like to know IF your solution (hardware and software) can control our type of motor.

I was referring ORIGINALLY to Texas Instruments user guide TIDU466 which indicated the “motor control board” and seemed to control a washing machine motor.
But I can’t find more information—obsolete??.
Was it replaced by something else?

Again, I need to know if some TI solution (hardware and software) can control our motor.
Does one of your sales representatives have a demo board we could borrow to prove same?

Best Regards

  • please see www.ti.com/instaspin for our InstaSPIN-FOC solution
TMS320F28027F is a popular choice for this application and is in production in several washing machine models.

    TMDSHVMTRINSPIN is a good EVM

This solution will identify the motor parameters and automatically create a closed loop torque control sensorless FOC solution. You can then tune the speed loop and add in motion profiles.
  • Dear ChrisClearman:

Before I purchase the EVM TMDSHVMTRINSPIN, could you review the motor spec (attached above) and verify it will drive this type motor?
I must do a SIMPLE demo using this motor for management and want to insure the EVM will work before I purchase it.
By simple demo I mean start, stop, control the speed of the motor, run the motor under load, etc.
I assume the InstaSpin-FOC software is loaded on this EVM, correct?
Will the EVM allow me to control easily this motor via say some demonstration ap running on a PC?

    Thank You
  • it isn't clear if this is a synchronous or asynchronous induction motor.  I've seen both types for these belt driven washing machines.

InstaSPIN-FOC works for both types, but the motor ID for asynchronous induction does not always/often work correctly.

If this is a synchronous motor yes, it will be no problem to do a demo. In fact the GUI that is included with the kit actually has a washing machine profile included.

If induction motor I would think you would have some trouble getting the motor parameters. If you are able to get them from your supplier you could skip the motor ID and it will work correctly, but then you couldn't use the GUI with the washing machine profile and you would need to do this portion yourself.

    best of luck.
